Amazonite Properties

Amazonite comes in varying shades of turquoise and green, often with hints of yellow and/or gray, and it can be translucent or opaque. It is made out of the mineral microcline, and its color is a result of trace amounts of lead and water impurities.

As the name implies, it was named after the Amazon River in Brazil, since it was originally discovered in the jungles surrounding the river. It was used to adorn the shields of the Amazonians, women warriors who were thought to live in the 10th century B.C.
