But before we begin, let’s do a quick recap on chakras…
What Are Chakras?
The word "chakra" translates from Sanskirt to "wheel" or "disk" and refers to the 7 main energy centers that are spinning like wheels in our bodies, from the base of our spine all the way up to the crown of our heads.
These energy centers work to unite our mind, body and spirit, with each of them having a unique function, which we will dive in a bit.
Why Chakras Get Out of Alignment
All of our chakras determine and regulate the flow of energy throughout our bodies. When a chakra becomes unbalanced, it’s due to an imbalance in energy flow, which manifests as physical, mental and spiritual symptoms related to the chakra.
A blocked or unbalanced chakra can be caused by factors such as:
- Stress
- Unhealthy habits
- Lack of self care
- Environmental conditions

A Chakra Meditation for Each Chakra
The following 7 chakra meditations correspond to each chakra and will serve as a guide to chakra alignment.
If you’re new to chakra meditation healing, we recommend starting with your root chakra and working your way up. Let’s get started!
Root Chakra/Muladhara
The root chakra is the first chakra, and it is located at the base of the spine. It is responsible for our basic survival needs, such as food, warmth, shelter, and our overall sense of stability and security.
When the root chakra is unbalanced or blocked, we feel ungrounded and uncertain about many aspects in our life.
Here are some examples of what can trigger a blocked root chakra:
- Frequent travel
- Financial instability
- Major life changes
On the flipside, some people suffer from an overactive root chakra, which can be the result of…
- Too much focus on material gain
- Lack of grounding practices
- Greed/hoarding
This chakra matches the frequency of the color red, and can be activated through the use of red crystals like Red Jasper or Garnet, or other grounding crystals like Black Tourmaline and Smoky Quartz.
When you’re feeling overwhelmed or unsettled, try this root chakra meditation with crystals to clear and open up your root chakra.
Other ways you can balance your root chakra is by practicing grounding routines, such as spending time in nature or practicing yoga.
Sacral Chakra/Svadhisthana
The sacral chakra is the second chakra, which is located just below the navel. This chakra is associated with the color orange and rules our creative and sexual expression.
Common symptoms of a blocked sacral chakra include:

An overactive sacral chakra can manifest as:
