But, before we dig into Amethyst's magical powers, it's important to first define what we mean when we talk about magical properties.

What Does it Mean to Have Magical Properties?

Oxford Dictionary defines "magical" as "relating to, using, or resembling magic."

And when we look up the word "magic," we get, "the power of apparently influencing the course of events by using mysterious or supernatural forces."

The incredible thing about Amethyst is that it fits both of these definitions, and we're going to hit on some of the topics related to both.

But, we haven't talked so much about the magical properties of Amethyst until now, and this is a really fun topic!

Why Does Amethyst Have Magical Powers?

Crystals and Amethyst Geodes literally hold within them the living power of the earth because they are formed over millions of years when bubbling magma from deep within the earth pushes its way up.

Gas bubbles form once the magma reaches the surface and/or when water evaporates, and those bubbles create Amethyst Geodes.

This process alone certainly qualifies as phenomenal or extraordinary.

There is incredible pressure and force that is required for Amethysts to form, and that is what creates the powerful healing and magical properties of Amethyst.

That pressure causes the Amethyst to eternally oscillate or vibrate.

These vibrations correspond to certain energy centers in the body depending on the type of crystal. In the case of Amethyst, it's the crown chakra and the third eye.

By directing the energy of the crystal, we are able to accomplish magical things.

Amethyst also has two special magical properties:

1. Piezoelectric - When pressure is applied to the stone, it releases an electric charge.
2. Pyroelectric - It gives off an electric charge when exposed to temperature changes.

What is Stone Magic?

Stone magic means using the energy within a crystal to bring about some type of transformation.

Since the vibrations of crystals correspond to the energy centers in our bodies, we can use crystals as tools to bring about a desired change within us.

Cleansing Rituals

Cleansing rituals are particularly useful for sacred spaces, but also for any space at all. 

Place an Amethyst stone in your hand and walk around the space you want to cleanse. Envision the energy of the crystal cleansing the space around you, transmuting all negativity into the beautiful energy of love.

Alternatively, you can place a large Amethyst Geode in the center of the space you are cleansing and then meditate in front of it, visualizing your space being cleansed.

Ritual Baths

Amethyst ritual baths are soothing, healing, and simple. They strengthen your connection to higher consciousness and your guides. They help you let go of the habits that aren't serving you and they enhance your intuition.

1. Place your Amethyst crystals on the bottom of the tub (make sure none are small enough to go down the drain) and start by running warm water on them to get them adjusted to the heat.
2. Gradually increase the water temperature, being careful the crystals don't crack by exposing them too quickly.
3. Consider dimming the lights, using candles or incense, smudging before you enter the bath, and adding essential oils to the bath water to further enhance the ambiance.
4. Set an intention before you enter the bath.
5. Immerse yourself in the healing water generated from your crystals as you visualize your intention. Feel the Amethyst-infused water healing you and entering your pores.
6. Afterwards, dry the Amethysts off and place them in a bowl of sea salt to cleanse them.

A spiritual altar serves to provide your desires with a physical form and give you a sacred space from which to practice crystal rituals.

1. Locate where you want to create your altar and smudge the area to cleanse it of negative energy.
